Zig Zig
The latest piece by this young director is based on the protocols of a historic court case in 1919, when British soldiers were accused of attacking a village in Upper Egypt, raping the women and burning down the houses. Twelve women, all rape victims, had the courage to appear as witnesses in court. In the context of women’s situation not only in today’s Egypt, where rape and abuse are often concealed or played down, «Zig Zig» demonstrates impressively what it means to be at the mercy of one’s rulers, both then and now.
